Onward Christian Soldiers

Christians believe love conquers all. That is why Christians have conquered so many countries.

When a typical American man says to a woman ‘I love you’, he implicitly means ‘I want you to be my exclusive property.’

If you are sure you are not that way, then you are not a typical American man.

Of course, there is complementary corollary to that position. Women still expect to be taken care of, provided for, protected, and properly adorned and displayed.

If you are sure you are not that way, then you are not the typical American woman.

A cautionary proposition: If a male suitor brings roses to woo a woman to marry him, she can well expect to end up in a bed of thorns.

These conquest and possession propositions make a nice coupling convention for a war mongering, capitalist, conspicuous consumer society.

No wonder these conventions are so frequently a part of media dramas.

We live in a country with a pervasive conquest and possession mindset.

If you thought that our culture had grown beyond that, well, maybe you should think again.

What a way to ‘rear’ a country!
